Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the ratio between early and late mitral filling velocities (E/A) as a prognostic factor for hospitalizations due to cardiovascular causes and mortality in primary care; to identify the main NANDA-I nursing diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes associated with diastolic dysfunction.
Method: 633 individuals were recruited for evaluation of the E/A ratio and characterization of diastolic dysfunction. Multivariate Cox regression with Schoenfeld residual analysis, survival analysis, and hazard ratio estimation were performed.
Results: After six years, crude hazard ratios of 3.47, 3.60, 3.02, and 0.41 were identified for classes II and III diastolic dysfunction at cut-off points 1 and 2, respectively (p<0.01). Nursing diagnoses of Activity Intolerance, Anxiety, Fatigue, and Deficient Knowledge should be prioritized.
Conclusion: The E/A ratio showed an altered pattern in most participants without a diagnosis of heart failure, which may indicate a subclinical form of the condition.
