Abstract
In this theoretical essay we seek to problematize the poles of opposition "living vs. caring" in the experience of care for adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus. It is in the experience of chronicity as a critical category of social and human sciences in collective health that we locate our lenses. Based on Erving 's Embarrassment Perspective Goffman and logics of care with Annemarie Mol, we revisit qualitative productions of articles published from 2001 to 2021 in three databases. We triangulate the experience with research in the field of chronicity, with the bibliographic review and the authors that we theoretically use. Our argument is that DM1 must be located as an illness experience, within the scope of the chronicity of "living with", the grammars of care, the management of stigmas, the vocabularies and management of technologies to monitor symptoms and resort to possible networks. The objective of the essay is to problematize the poles of living x caring, linking this purpose to our theoretical reflection. Caring for an adolescent cannot do without political discussion, since asymmetries and inequalities dialogue with the social location of the subjects and with adult-centric structures that produce barriers to care.
