Abstract
This study addresses how cultural factors, specifically Guanxi, moderate the impact of green supply chain management (GSCM) on green innovation and environmental performance in Chinese and Korean manufacturing firms. Using a comparative China-Korea lens, we find that while green innovation enhances environmental performance in both countries, Guanxi significantly promotes green innovation only in China, highlighting the critical role of cultural context in sustainable operations. Our research innovatively integrates cultural sensitivity into GSCM theory, demonstrating that effective green strategies require alignment with local relational norms. Practically, this offers multinational firms actionable insights for designing culturally attuned green policies that leverage local practices like Guanxi to drive sustainability outcomes.
