A colormetry-enhanced and highly pH-responsive smart film using 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride as tuner for monitoring grass carp freshness

The findings indicated that the flexibility of films added with BmimCl was enhanced and the elongation at break (EAB) was increased from 20.34 % to 28.36 %. The surface of films was smoother and denser, and the surface roughness was reduced from 1.7 μm to 1.2 μm. The peak intensities of the XRD and FT-IR patterns of films changed, indicating the formation of hydrogen bonds between BmimCl and film substrates. The GGPS-R-FA-B4 film presented the most pronounced color change in different pH environments and the most sensitive response to the variation of ammonia concentration in the environment. The color of GGPS-R-FA-B4 film exhibited a strong correlation with the quality change of fish, which could be used to distinguish the freshness, sub-freshness, and spoilage of grass carp. Emphasis is placed on the properties of the colouring matters themselves rather than on their applications or the system in which they may be applied. Thus the journal accepts research and review papers on the synthesis of dyes, pigments and intermediates, their physical or chemical properties, e.g. spectroscopic, surface, solution or solid state characteristics, the physical aspects of their preparation, e.g. precipitation, nucleation and growth, crystal formation, liquid crystalline characteristics, their photochemical, ecological or biological properties and the relationship between colour and chemical constitution. However, papers are considered which deal with the more fundamental aspects of colourant application and of the interactions of colourants with substrates or media. The journal will interest a wide variety of workers in a range of disciplines whose work involves dyes, pigments and their intermediates, and provides a platform for investigators with common interests but diverse fields of activity such as cosmetics, reprographics, dye and pigment synthesis, medical research, polymers, etc.
