Abstract

The growing significance of sulfone‐containing compounds in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials science has driven interest in innovative sulfono functionalization strategies. Despite the progress, the diversity of emerging methods, from transition metal catalysis to photoredox and electrochemical approaches, has led to a fragmented understanding across disciplines. This review article aims to consolidate recent advancements, critically analyze current methodologies, and highlight trends shaping the future of sulfono chemistry. By offering a comprehensive overview of established and novel synthetic techniques, this review is a valuable resource for researchers, aiding in the rational design of sulfone‐based molecules and fostering the development of more sustainable, efficient, and selective functionalization protocols. Ultimately, it bridges gaps in literature, stimulates interdisciplinary collaboration, and identifies unexplored avenues for future research.

Organic chemistry is the fundamental science that stands at the heart of chemistry, biology, and materials science. Research in these areas is vigorous and truly international, with three major regions making almost equal contributions: America, Europe and Asia. Asia now has its own top international organic chemistry journal—the Asian Journal of Organic Chemistry (AsianJOC) The AsianJOC is designed to be a top-ranked international research journal and publishes primary research as well as critical secondary information from authors across the world. The journal covers organic chemistry in its entirety. Authors and readers come from academia, the chemical industry, and government laboratories.
