Heart in the Crossfire: Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Mediated Cardiotoxicity.

Abstract

The development of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has altered the landscape of anti-cancer therapeutics. While ICI agents have been integral in the management of a number of solid organ malignancies, their use has been associated with adverse cardiotoxic side effects including acute myocarditis, vasculitis, arrhythmia, and/or pericardial disorders. In this brief review, the pathophysiology of ICI-mediated cardiotoxicity, its clinical presentation, the diagnostic approach, and mainstays of treatment will be described.
