Abstract
As part of a systematic study, this research aims to investigate the protective effects of subfraction I3 from Syringa pinnatifolia against oxidative damage following acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in mice and its underlying mechanisms. The I3 was chemically characterized by using IT-TOF-ESI-MS. The anti-AMI effects of fraction C and subfractions I2 and I3 were evaluated by using H&E staining, immunofluorescence, and Western blotting. The results showed that I3 improves the impaired cardiac function, bringing it to a level comparable to that of C in vivo and/or in vitro, whereas I2 did not exhibit this effect, suggesting the lignan rather than terpenoid fraction contributes the anti-AMI effect of S. pinnatifolia, and the mechanism of action may be related to the promotion of the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway activation.
