Abstract
This study aimed to synthesize and conduct a preliminary characterization of particles produced through the emulsion and suspension polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in the presence of copper nanowires (CuNWs). These polymerization techniques offer insights into green polymerization methods. The resulting polymeric particles from both emulsion and suspension processes were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The particles synthesized via emulsion polymerization measured approximately 605 nm in size, and the emulsion exhibited stability, while the particles resulting from the suspension polymerization process were around 956 nm. GPC analysis indicated that polymerization in a heterogeneous medium maintained a controlled nature in the presence of CuNWs, as evidenced by the polydispersity index and the chain-extension reaction. The structure of PMMA was examined using FTIR and 1H-NMR analyses, which validated the proposed structure.
期刊介绍:
"Polymer Bulletin" is a comprehensive academic journal on polymer science founded in 1988. It was founded under the initiative of the late Mr. Wang Baoren, a famous Chinese chemist and educator. This journal is co-sponsored by the Chinese Chemical Society, the Institute of Chemistry, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is supervised by the China Association for Science and Technology. It is a core journal and is publicly distributed at home and abroad.
"Polymer Bulletin" is a monthly magazine with multiple columns, including a project application guide, outlook, review, research papers, highlight reviews, polymer education and teaching, information sharing, interviews, polymer science popularization, etc. The journal is included in the CSCD Chinese Science Citation Database. It serves as the source journal for Chinese scientific and technological paper statistics and the source journal of Peking University's "Overview of Chinese Core Journals."
