Abstract

In this study, we present an efficient method for fabricating surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates using ZnO@Au thin films, achieved through radio frequency magnetron sputtering followed by post-annealing process. The photo-induced enhanced Raman scattering (PIERS) effect was thoroughly evaluated through both experimental and simulation approaches. In-situ UV irradiation yielded a 4-fold increase in SERS intensity, enabling a thiram detection limit of 10-9 M. The prepared substrates demonstrated exceptional reusability and durability, maintaining high performance over extended periods. The combination of experimental data with simulations provides a comprehensive understanding of the PIERS effect, highlighting the method’s potential for highly sensitive, reliable, and versatile analytical applications.

The aim of the journal is to provide a respectful outlet for ''sound science'' papers in all research areas on surfaces and interfaces. We define sound science papers as papers that describe new and well-executed research, but that do not necessarily provide brand new insights or are merely a description of research results. Surfaces and Interfaces publishes research papers in all fields of surface science which may not always find the right home on first submission to our Elsevier sister journals (Applied Surface, Surface and Coatings Technology, Thin Solid Films)
