Abstract

Decentralized independent electro-hydraulic control system driven by electro-hydraulic actuators (EHAs) has high efficiency and excellent control performance. However, the high costs of EHA restricts the development of systems. This paper conducts a comprehensive investigation of the impact of various separate EHA layouts on both the operational performance and cost of the system. Additionally, a novel semi-decentralized independent electro-hydraulic control system integrating EHAs and load-sensing actuators is proposed and applied to a 6-ton excavator’s manipulator. Considering bucket-soil digging force, an accurate hydraulic-mechanical coupling model of the excavator is established, and a control strategy for four-quadrant energy recovery/storage is designed. The findings indicate that, compared to the traditional load-sensing system, the proposed system can achieve energy-saving rates of up to 44.4 % in simulation models, and an equivalent fuel saving rate of approximately 47.02 % under experimental verification. The proposed system reduces costs by 33 % compared to conventional decentralized systems.
