Abstract

This study considers the wear and wear surface characteristics of phenolic resin–based brake pads made by powder metallurgy techniques. During the experiments, the friction and wear parameters are measured using a pin-on-disc test, and microstructural studies are conducted using optical microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. An analysis of variance was carried out, which showed the significant influence of these parameters on the wear process. The data obtained from the experimental studies were also used to build regression models that made it possible to determine the influence of various factors (pressure, speed, and sliding distance) on the wear rate and characteristics of friction materials. The results of this study show that, in order to improve the wear resistance and durability of brake friction materials, it is necessary to optimize their composition, as well as to take into account the operating conditions of brake systems, which will make it possible to develop materials with improved characteristics and a high level of safety.
