Abstract
The review systematizes and summarizes information on chemical transformations of calcium carbide catalyzed by transition metals. The successful application of CaC2 was demonstrated for obtaining mono- and disubstituted alkynes, a wide range of heterocyclic compounds, in particular pharmaceutically important triazoles and imidazoles. Calcium carbide is a convenient reagent for development of organic syntheses based on a carbon-neutral cycle.
