Echocardiographic Diagnosis of Post-Myocardial Infarction Interventricular Septal Dissection With Mobile Thrombus

Abstract

A 59-year-old male presented with an acute embolic stroke. Subsequent workup revealed an acute anterior ST-elevation MI. Echocardiography demonstrated a large (82 × 32 mm) dissection cavity in the mid-to-apical septum, containing a mobile thrombus, which communicated with the left ventricular cavity through a 2-mm endocardial tear. Despite conservative management, the patient experienced sudden cardiac death (SCD).
