Abstract

This letter proposes a novel Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS)-based optimized dual attack (RIS-ODA) strategy for eavesdropping and jamming in wireless communication systems. The RIS-ODA leverages partial Channel State Information (CSI) to simultaneously enhance eavesdropping rate and degrade the legitimate receiver’s communication rate. The attack strategy is formulated as a dual-objective optimization problem, which is solved using triangle inequality and Bernstein-Type Inequality (BTI) to handle probability measure constraints. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively enhances eavesdropping rate and suppresses Bob’s communication rate without requiring perfect CSI or additional power, achieving a superior balance between attack performance and practical implementation feasibility.

The IEEE Communications Letters publishes short papers in a rapid publication cycle on advances in the state-of-the-art of communication over different media and channels including wire, underground, waveguide, optical fiber, and storage channels. Both theoretical contributions (including new techniques, concepts, and analyses) and practical contributions (including system experiments and prototypes, and new applications) are encouraged. This journal focuses on the physical layer and the link layer of communication systems.
