Abstract
A TEMPO spin probe was used to analyze the molecular dynamics and structure of the adsorption layers of modified Separon SGX C18 silica gel in various solvents. It was established that during the adsorption of liquids on silica gel, a superposition of the TEMPO EPR spectra was recorded from radicals interacting with the silanol groups of the silica gel surface and from radicals located in the bulk of the grafted C18 phase. The rotation correlation times of these radicals and their distribution in the hydrocarbon layers were determined depending on the amount and polarity of the adsorbed solvent. According to the results of the study, the dynamic characteristics of the probe can be used to predict the adsorption properties of the modified silica gels.
