Abstract

Lanthanide based metal-organic frameworks are emerging as a class of materials with multiple applications. This is due to the combination of the unique optical properties of lanthanide ions and the extra functionalities added by the metal-organic frameworks. Nevertheless, up to now, these properties have not been explored up to their full potential. In this work, we are proving, for the first time, that Ho3+, Tm3+ based on 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid metal-organic frameworks can be applied as luminescent thermometers and also as photothermal agents, using their upconversion properties after excitation at 808 nm.
