Abstract

In virtualized Internet of Things (IoT) sensor networks, where sensor nodes are reconfigured with time to perform different sensing tasks, ensuring data security is challenging. This is because of the changing data sensitivity and sensor nodes' limited resources. Navigating the tradeoff between data security and resource usage, this letter proposes metric-based security profile selection (MBSPS) for sensor nodes in virtualized IoT sensor networks. The proposed MBSPS scheme adaptively selects security profiles for each IoT sensor node in rounds, utilizing standardized lightweight cryptography and advanced encryption standard. Through practical experiments, we verify that the proposed MBSPS scheme outperforms the existing security profile selection schemes in terms of security efficiency.
