Abstract

This review paper discusses nonthermal plasma surface treatment researches and atmospheric pressure plasma hybrid treatment technology as the only effective method for achieving high-strength adhesion of fluoroplastic (Teflon), which is otherwise extremely difficult to bond using conventional plasma treatments. Although surface modification techniques such as corona discharge treatment and standard plasma treatments exist, they are generally ineffective for fluoroplastics. This paper first explains the electrode system used in the plasma treatment and the principle of hydrophilization. It then introduces atmospheric pressure plasma graft polymerization treatment developed by the authors. This review also explores its applications in improving the adhesion of fluoroplastics for high-frequency cables, automotive hose components, and medical devices, presenting production methods, adhesion performance test results, and characterization measurements.
