This editorial discusses the national survey, by Barni et al., which examines the lives of retired medical oncology chiefs in Italy, focusing on their well-being, ongoing professional identity, and willingness to remain engaged in the healthcare system. In a time of critical workforce shortages in oncology, the findings reveal a valuable yet underutilized resource: retired physicians.
