Abstract
A convenient four-component condensation reaction of phthalimide, hydrazine hydrate, malononitrile, and aromatic aldehyde has been executed by 3-picolinic acid in ethanol at reflux temperature in a very simple way. This developed method for synthesizing nitrilo-phthalazine derivatives is operationally simple, cost-effective, easy for product purification, environmentally benign, and high-yielding.
