Abstract

Risk based Work Selection Method (RBWS) helps asset owners and operators to identify, prioritize and optimize maintenance activities taking into consideration the Safety, Health, Environmental and Economic consequences. There are two approaches to assess the risk associated with a structural component anomaly: Final failure & progressive failure approach. It has always been a challenge for an integrity engineer to select an appropriate approach to decide the risk and mitigation plan for a structural anomaly. This paper in-detail discusses the applicability of these approaches for different structural members based on their functionality and criticality in the overall structural arrangement and help the engineers make a judicious decision in planning the maintenance activities without compromising the integrity of structure.
