Abstract

Background: Transition from secondary school to higher education often presents challenges, particularly for nursing students who may face additional difficulties impacting their learning and study skills. Recognising and addressing these challenges are crucial for facilitating effective learning and improving study skills among students needing additional curricular and psychological support. The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of the Student Educational Enhancement Programme (SEEP) on study skills among nursing students needing additional curricular and psychological support. The study also correlated their effectiveness and associated study skills, with selected demographic variables.

Methods: A true experimental design was employed to assess the effectiveness of the SEEP on the study skills of first-year B.Sc. (Nursing) students in Puducherry. The SEEP comprised structured group counselling, facial reflexology and INFINITI mind mapping learning. Pretest and post-test data were collected from study and control groups using standardised instruments. Statistical analyses, correlation and association tests were conducted to evaluate intervention’s impact and to explore relationships with demographic variables.

Results: The study group demonstrated significant improvements in study skills (13.49% increase), compared to marginal improvements in the control group. Positive correlations were observed between the intervention and study outcomes in the study group, emphasising its efficacy.

Conclusion: Therefore, the SEEP is considered as important in nursing education for enhancing study skills among nursing students needing additional curricular and psychological support.
