Abstract
Ochratoxin A (OTA) contamination in dried grapes remains a significant concern due to its nephrotoxic and carcinogenic properties. In this study, OTA levels were determined in 116 dried grape samples of Turkish origin collected during the 2023 and 2024 harvest seasons. The analysis was performed using a high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD) method, which was in-house validated for accuracy and precision. OTA was determined in 13.8 % of the samples, with concentrations ranging from 0.283 to 2.82 μg/kg; none exceeded the European Union's maximum level of 10 μg/kg for dried vine fruits. Health risk assessment based on mean and high-percentile dietary exposure scenarios demonstrated that OTA intake remained within tolerable safety thresholds, as margin of exposure (MOE) values consistently exceeded 10,000. These findings indicate a low potential health risk associated with OTA exposure from dried grape consumption among Turkish adults, while also highlighting the importance of ongoing surveillance to ensure consumer safety.

The Journal of Stored Products Research provides an international medium for the publication of both reviews and original results from laboratory and field studies on the preservation and safety of stored products, notably food stocks, covering storage-related problems from the producer through the supply chain to the consumer. Stored products are characterised by having relatively low moisture content and include raw and semi-processed foods, animal feedstuffs, and a range of other durable items, including materials such as clothing or museum artefacts.
