Les spécificités de la prise en charge des enfants en médecine nucléaire

Abstract

Après un rappel sur la problématique de l’exposition aux rayonnements ionisants chez les enfants, cet article décrit les principes généraux de gestion d’un examen scintigraphique en pédiatrie. L’article précise les modalités de gestion de l’anxiété et de la douleur chez les enfants et détaille les principes de communication (adaptée à l’âge) et de création d’un environnement médical favorable à la bonne réalisation d’une procédure de médecine nucléaire pédiatrique, depuis l’injection du radiopharmaceutique jusqu’aux acquisitions des images. Le positionnement de l’enfant, son hydratation et la gestion de ces mictions constituent également des facteurs garantissant l’obtention d’images de qualité optimale pour l’interprétation.

By revisiting the question of the exposure of pediatric populations to ionizing radiation, this manuscript explains the fundamental principles governing the administration of nuclear medicine procedures in the pediatric population. The discourse defines strategies to alleviate anxiety and discomfort in young patients and outlines communication principles appropriate to developmental stages, as well as the establishment of a supportive medical environment that facilitates the effective execution of pediatric nuclear medicine interventions, from radiopharmaceutical injection to the image acquisition phase. In addition, the positioning of the pediatric patient, as well as the appropriate management of hydration and urination, are essential elements that ensure that high-quality images are obtained for later interpretation.
