Abstract
This paper introduces a planar wideband eight-port multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna characterized by an elevated inter-port isolation. The unit element is meticulously engineered utilizing a rectangular microstrip patch antenna (MPA) with two sides shorted by metallic vias. Consequently, two distinct modes of MPA, namely TM01 and TM11, are stimulated in close proximity to each other. This specially designed unit element offers wideband performance and eventually improves inter-port isolation when duplicated to create an eight-port MIMO antenna. Additionally, four bow tie-shaped stubs are positioned at the central plane to improve inter-port isolation. A prototype is implemented to verify the proposed concept, and the measured results indicate that the eight-port MIMO antenna demonstrates an impedance bandwidth (|S11| ≤ −6dB) of ∼12 % (5.92–6.65 GHz) with a minimum inter-port isolation of 22 dB. The proposed MIMO antenna is a suitable candidate for installation on the metallic back cover as it does not require any ground clearance or internal space of the mobile phone.

AEÜ is an international scientific journal which publishes both original works and invited tutorials. The journal''s scope covers all aspects of theory and design of circuits, systems and devices for electronics, signal processing, and communication, including:
signal and system theory, digital signal processing
network theory and circuit design
information theory, communication theory and techniques, modulation, source and channel coding
switching theory and techniques, communication protocols
optical communications
microwave theory and techniques, radar, sonar
antennas, wave propagation
AEÜ publishes full papers and letters with very short turn around time but a high standard review process. Review cycles are typically finished within twelve weeks by application of modern electronic communication facilities.
