Abstract

The growing development of a techno-medicine based on cure to the detriment of care raises questions. Yet care is originally intended to be human, based on relationships and encounters: "Health and illness are personal matters; doctors have forgotten that", wrote Jacques Chardonne in 1961. It seems to us extremely important to reconnect with this singularity in the experience of illness, and to go back to listening, and above all hearing what the person being cared for has to say.
