Abstract

Yoshiyuki Kageyama obtained his PhD in multidisciplinary science from the University of Tokyo in 2006 and is currently an independent assistant professor in the Faculty of Chemistry at Hokkaido University. He has developed autonomous molecular systems and robots measuring tens of micrometers, including a light-driven self-oscillatory flipping microcrystal that exhibits self-propelling motion in water through a novel mechanism and the autocatalytic reproduction of vesicles by modeling self-sustainable cell division.
