Abstract

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is characterized by chronic inflammation. LncRNA NEAT1 has been implicated in inflammatory skin conditions. This study aimed to investigate NEAT1 expression and its potential clinical implications in HS patients. A total of 182 individuals participated in this research, comprising 80 individuals in the control group and 102 HS patients in the HS group. QRT-PCR quantified the expression of NEAT1. Concentrations of inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17, and TNF-α, were measured by ELISA. The association between NEAT1 level and these inflammatory markers was assessed by Pearson's correlation analysis. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed to estimate potential risk factors for HS. NEAT1 expression was elevated in HS patients compared to controls, with an area under the ROC curve measuring 0.8904, yielding a sensitivity of 69.61% and a specificity of 97.5%. Inflammatory factors IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17, and TNF-α were increased in HS patients and positively related to NEAT1 expression. The analysis identified smoking, ESR, CRP, and NEAT1 as risk factors for HS. In conclusion, increased NEAT1 in HS patients correlated with the disease severity. The expression level of NEAT1 was positively correlated with inflammatory factors, highlighting the role of smoking, ESR, CRP, and NEAT1 as key risk factors in HS.
