Abstract

Accurate estimation and brightness-calibration of individual LEDs in large display walls is crucial to the delivery of high-quality content. Viewpoint angle and sampling artifacts due to pixelization are key challenges in achieving precise brightness estimation. In this work, we propose a novel metric for assessing brightness accuracy, based on the consistency of brightness estimation between two closely spaced camera viewpoints, which maintain the same angular perspective while altering the camera pixel alignment with the LED grid. Experimental results demonstrate that EBA effectively quantifies the accuracy of any method used to mitigate sampling artifacts.

The Journal of the Society for Information Display publishes original works dealing with the theory and practice of information display. Coverage includes materials, devices and systems; the underlying chemistry, physics, physiology and psychology; measurement techniques, manufacturing technologies; and all aspects of the interaction between equipment and its users. Review articles are also published in all of these areas. Occasional special issues or sections consist of collections of papers on specific topical areas or collections of full length papers based in part on oral or poster presentations given at SID sponsored conferences.
