Abstract
The present work aimed to explore different Trillium tschonoskii Maxim. polysaccharide (TTMPs) fractions derived by ethanol precipitation on the physicochemical properties and biological activities, four new fractions (TTMP-40, TTMP-50, TTMP-60 and TTMP-70) were obtained. TTMPs contained varying proportions of arabinose, glucosamine hydrochloride, galactose, glucose, xylose and galacturonic acid, and exhibited different total sugar content, uronic acid content and protein content. All fractions also showed different molecular weight and microstructure. TTMP-70 displayed the stronger antioxidant activity than that of TTMP-40, TTMP-50 and TTMP-60 in vitro. Furthermore, the immunomodulatory effects of TTMP-70 were mediated through reduction of intracellular ROS, which in turn inhibited H2O2-induced apoptosis and promoted CD8+ T cell proliferation. These results indicate that TTMP-70 has the potential to be a potent natural antioxidant with clinical and industrial applications.
