Abstract
Introduction
Breast cancer is the most incident neoplasm in women; the disease and treatment has an impact on the transformations of the body and the everyday life of women. Physical activity is a bodily action that can mediate side effects.
Objective
To analyse the meanings and experiences of physical activity practice of women breast cancer survivors, in relation to the uses of the body and health care.
Methodology
A qualitative approach was followed, with the methodological foundations of grounded theory. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, recorded and transcribed for analysis. Discourse analysis was carried out with line-by-line, open and then selective coding.
Results
Nine women were interviewed between 2022 and 2023. Five different trajectories were interpreted which are mediated by various factors such as previous experience of physical activity, age, educational level, medical recommendations and disease symptomatology. Physical activity is perceived as both a physical and mental action that can be performed for the pursuit of well-being, satisfaction and as a therapeutic resource.
Conclusion
Physical activity has a role to play in the integral recovery of women after diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, which is why the creation of specific programmes should be promoted, as well as the training of professionals in the field of physical activity.
