Pain Management Practice Plan for Neonatal Pain.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to address clinical challenges in neonatal pain management by proposing standardized procedures, identifying critical considerations, and providing institution-specific recommendations.

Design: Descriptive and analytical methods were utilized to comprehensively summarize neonatal pain management procedures based on existing literature related to pain interventions in neonates.

Data sources: Relevant articles were retrieved from multiple databases, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP, and Wan Fang, from their inception until 10 September 2024.

Review/analysis methods: Key difficulties associated with neonatal pain assessment and intervention were identified, the operational workflow for managing neonatal pain was systematically organized, and detailed guidelines for each management step were proposed.

Results: The primary outcome is a standardized framework proposed for neonatal pain management.

Conclusions: The guidelines outlined in this article provide practical strategies for improving the consistency and effectiveness of neonatal pain interventions, thereby facilitating the clinical standardization of neonatal pain management practices.

Nursing practice implications: This study outlines standardized steps for clinical neonatal pain management, emphasizes essential considerations, and offers practical guidance for healthcare institutions to develop customized pain management protocols. The recommendations can assist healthcare professionals in achieving more uniform and effective neonatal pain management practices.
