Abstract
Human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) is one of the most common pathogens causing acute lower respiratory infections in children globally and poses a significant burden of severe respiratory disease among elderly and adults with underlying conditions. Several immunization products are currently available to prevent severe HRSV disease in infants and elderly adults. To guide and standardize HRSV control and prevention among the elderly population, School of Population Medicine and Public Health, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College established a multidisciplinary expert panel to develop this expert consensus. Based on domestic and global research progress, evidence, and prevention/control experience, this expert consensus focuses on key technical issues including HRSV disease burden, surveillance, prevention/control strategies, vaccine application and recommendations. The consensus particularly emphasizes identifying critical technical questions from a policy perspective and consolidating expert consensus, aiming to provide healthcare professionals with reference for HRSV prevention and control in elderly populations.
