Psychological Effects of Human Posture: A Roy Adaptation Model-Guided Integrative Review.

Abstract

Human posture, distinguished from that of other primates, represents not only a physiological manifestation but also a complex psychological effect, influencing self-perception, emotion, and cognition. Guided by the Roy adaptation model, this paper presents an integrative review of literature conducted to identify psychological effects of physiological dimensions of posture on both the physical self and the personal self within the framework of Roy's self-concept adaptive mode, emphasizing the intrinsic relationship between mind and body. The aim of the review is to establish a knowledge foundation for the evidence-based nursing practices pertinent to posture assessment and promotion of good posture.
