Using data from the UK Biobank, researchers assessed the relationship between personal light exposure patterns and T2DM risk. Findings revealed that for every 10-lux increase in LAN, the risk of developing T2DM rises by 30 %. The study underscores the importance of circadian alignment in metabolic health and suggests that mitigating nighttime light exposure, especially in urban environments, could be a practical strategy for reducing T2DM risk. Raising awareness about the health risks of light pollution and advocating for healthier lighting solutions in public spaces could play a crucial role in T2DM prevention.
