Abstract
Contemporary glass structures in public buildings combine aesthetics with functionality, allowing the design of spacious, glazed spaces. This article focuses on the challenges associated with the design and construction of aluminium-glass structural roofs, analysing the case of roof failure in the courtyard of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Wrocław. Key causes of failure include material selection errors, misinterpretation of loads, and water drainage and sealing imperfections. The analysis highlights the need to consider the specific properties of glass as a building material, perform precise strength calculations, and pay close attention to the assembly details. The case study also reveals the need for further research on the interaction between glass and other materials, as well as the long-term durability of such structures. The conclusions drawn from the analysis emphasise the importance of high-quality design, thorough construction oversight, and regular maintenance, all of which contribute to increased safety and longevity of glass roofs in the future.
