Birdsong learning: Dopamine signals guide song improvement in juvenile birds.

Abstract

Juvenile songbirds babble and gradually improve with practice. Two recent studies show that dopamine signals evaluate song quality and direct learning in juvenile songbirds. It is as if birds forage an acoustic landscape in search of the right note with the same signals and circuits that hungry animals forage a territory for food rewards.
