[End-of-life care in nursing homes and the spiritual triad: an essential convergence for holistic care].

Abstract

During end-of-life care, a delicate convergence takes place between three spiritual dimensions: that of the caregiver, that of the cared-for and that of the loved ones. This subtle process calls for deep, enlightened introspection on the part of the caregiver, enabling him or her to accompany the patient with kindness and authenticity. This spiritual dimension, which transcends technical care, soothes the dying and their loved ones by offering them a space to express their fears and hopes. Inherited from hospital tradition, taking spirituality into account ensures dignity and humanity in this final transition.
