Abstract
Ceratophryidae is a clade of hyperossified anurans characteristic of the South American Neotropical fauna, with a well-documented fossil record in the Neogene of central Argentina, but scarcely represented in northwestern Argentina (NWA). This study describes two fossil specimens (IBIGEO-P 99 and IBIGEO-P 128) assigned to Ceratophryidae, recovered from the Palo Pintado Formation (Miocene–Pliocene) in Salta Province. These findings represent some of the westernmost occurrences of Ceratophrys in Argentina and extend the genus' paleobiogeographic range during the Late Neogene. The exceptional preservation of the IBIGEO-P 99 skull -despite potential reworking by transport- suggests a depositional setting related to sudden flooding and proximal overbank sedimentation (floodplain). This study enhances our understanding of the historical biogeography of Ceratophrys and highlights the paleoenvironmental and biostratigraphic significance of the Palo Pintado Formation as a key site for reconstructing Neogene ecosystems in northwestern Argentina.

Papers must have a regional appeal and should present work of more than local significance. Research papers dealing with the regional geology of South American cratons and mobile belts, within the following research fields:
-Economic geology, metallogenesis and hydrocarbon genesis and reservoirs.
-Geophysics, geochemistry, volcanology, igneous and metamorphic petrology.
-Tectonics, neo- and seismotectonics and geodynamic modeling.
-Geomorphology, geological hazards, environmental geology, climate change in America and Antarctica, and soil research.
-Stratigraphy, sedimentology, structure and basin evolution.
-Paleontology, paleoecology, paleoclimatology and Quaternary geology.
New developments in already established regional projects and new initiatives dealing with the geology of the continent will be summarized and presented on a regular basis. Short notes, discussions, book reviews and conference and workshop reports will also be included when relevant.
