Abstract
Distillery sludge (DSS) composting often faces slow humification and low humification degrees. This study investigated the effects of adding Jiang-flavor Baijiu distillers' grains (JFSDG) on physical and chemical parameters, humus formation, and bacterial communities during DSS composting. The results revealed that the addition of 16 % JFSDG significantly shortened composting duration, reduced phytotoxicity, and increased the germination index by 18 % compared with the control group. JFSDG enhanced humic acid formation, leading to a 65 % increase in final humic acid content. High-throughput sequencing and network analysis revealed that JFSDG addition enriched the abundance of Sphaerobacter and Bacillus, which facilitated microbial interactions. Correlation analysis indicated that temperature, organic matter content, and Bacillus were significantly correlated with increased humus formation. JFSDG addition enhanced humus precursor formation and affected the core microbial community, thereby accelerating the composting process. These findings provide insights into the use of JFSDG to enhance DSS composting and present technical support for its co-disposal.
