Abstract

Orthodontic specialty admissions statistics have improved markedly for women. However, women still encounter challenges to achieving professional success. A number of strategies for overcoming obstacles can be implemented. A career in academic orthodontics and orthodontic research has advantages. Future orthodontists who will advance the field are chosen by educators; that impact is one of the appeals of an academic career. Efforts to provide the safest, most effective care for patients have their basis in education and research.
