Abstract

In this study, two different metallosurfactants based on Co(II) and Cu(II) were synthesized, characterized and applied as catalysts for cross-aldol condensation between benzaldehyde and cyclohexanone. It was observed that the solubilization of the metallosurfactants was higher than that of the precursor surfactant i.e. cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC). It was also found that the intrinsic rate constants of the metallosurfactants were higher than that of the precursor surfactants as evidenced by the values of initial rates for the above reaction.
