Abstract
Objectives: To analyze the clinical effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at Erheliao (TE22) and Jianer (Extra) on subjective tinnitus in the acute phase.
Methods: A total of 68 patients with subjective tinnitus were randomly divided into an observation group (34 cases, 1 case dropped out) and a control group (34 cases, 1 case dropped out). In the control group, the routine acupuncture was administrated. In the observation group, besides the regimen as the control group, EA was applied to TE22 and Jianer (Extra). In the two groups, the needles were retained for 30 min in each intervention, and the intervention was delivered once daily and 1 course of treatment was composed of 15 days;and two courses of treatment were required. Before and after intervention completion, the scores of tinnitus evaluation questionnaire (TEQ), visual analogue scale (VAS) for tinnitus and insomnia severity index (ISI) were observed. Using SF-36 quality of life assessment scale, the scores for physical health and mental health were evaluated. The clinical effect was calculated.
Results: After treatment, the scores of TEQ, VAS and ISI were decreased in the two groups compared with those before treatment (P<0.05). The scores of TEQ, VAS and ISI in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). When compared with the scores before treatment, the scores of physical health and mental health were increased after treatment in both groups (P<0.05), and there was no significant difference in the score of physical health between the two groups, but the score of mental health in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate was 87.9% (29/33) in the observation group and 72.7% (24/33) in the control group. The total effective rate in the observation group was superior to that of the control group (P<0.05).
Conclusions: EA at TE22 and Jianer (Extra) combined with routine acupuncure can better promote the recovery of tinnitus and improve the quality of lift and psychological health in the patients, presenting a satisfactory clinical effect.

Acupuncture Research was founded in 1976. It is an acupuncture academic journal supervised by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, co-sponsored by the Institute of Acupuncture of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and the Chinese Acupuncture Association. This journal is characterized by "basic experimental research as the main focus, taking into account clinical research and reporting". It is the only journal in my country that focuses on reporting the mechanism of action of acupuncture.
The journal has been changed to a monthly journal since 2018, published on the 25th of each month, and printed in full color. The manuscript acceptance rate is about 10%, and provincial and above funded projects account for about 80% of the total published papers, reflecting the latest scientific research results in the acupuncture field and has a high academic level. Main columns: mechanism discussion, clinical research, acupuncture anesthesia, meridians and acupoints, theoretical discussion, ideas and methods, literature research, etc.
