The development of a rational strategy for vaccination requires an appreciation of the parasite life cycle, how Cryptosporidium interacts with its host cell (the enterocyte), and the immune mechanisms that act locally to control this organism. Abstract
The parasite Cryptosporidium is a leading cause of diarrhea and death in malnourished children and immunocompromised individuals and an important enteric pathogen of livestock.
