Abstract

Background: Helicobacter pylori is a Gram negative bacterium in the human stomach. Considering the side effects of the drug regimen and the prevalence of antibiotic resistance, in this project, the antimicrobial effect of aloe vera extracts on Helicobacter pylori was tested.

Materials and methods: Evaluation of the antimicrobial effect of aloe vera extract on Helicobacter pylori was done using diffusion methods in agar, and the diameter of the nongrowth halo was measured. The molecular interaction between the active ingredients of aloe vera and urease enzyme was investigated with Mulgroo Virtual Docker (MVD) software.

Results: The diameter of the halo of no growth at a concentration of 1000 mg/ml in aloe vera was 19 mm, and the maximum diameter of no growth was observed in the ethanolic extract.

Conclusion: According to our results, the ethanolic extract of aloe vera can be suggested as a good option as an antimicrobial supplement for Helicobacter pylori.
