Abstract
The availability of single-tablet regimens for pediatric patients living with perinatally-acquired HIV continues to lag behind those in the adult population, presenting a unique challenge to providers, particularly in the setting of complex care needs. Presented is a 7-year-old male living with perinatally-acquired HIV complicated by developmental delay, seizure disorder, and oral-motor dysfunction. To support medication adherence, caregivers dissolved low-dose bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide, with follow-up showing maintenance of virologic suppression, no adverse side effects, and improved adherence to medication based on parental report and pharmacy refill history. This is the first known published case report of dissolved low-dose bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide in a pediatric patient.
