The results indicated that the ecological environment quality in the study area was mainly at moderate and good levels, showing a spatial distribution pattern of high quality in the south and low in north. From 2001 to 2021, the changes in ecological environment quality in the Taihang Mountain area primarily involved improvements, with an improvement area of 6.5×10<sup>4</sup> km<sup>2</sup>, accounting for 47.82% of the total study area. The Hurst index exhibited a mean value of 0.44, and the proportion of areas with values less than 0.5 was 75.81%, indicating anti-persistence, where the future trend was opposite to that from 2001 to 2021.
