Abstract
Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are promising catalysts for degrading organic pollutants in wastewater due to their high surface area, tunable porosity, and versatile chemical functionalities. This review offers a comprehensive overview of their application in wastewater treatment, focusing on catalytic processes, design strategies, and real-world use cases. It examines common organic pollutants and explores photocatalytic, Fenton-like, and other catalytic processes facilitated by MOFs. Strategies for enhancing activity through structural modifications, composite formation, and post-synthetic modifications are discussed. Additionally, case studies and environmental impact considerations are examined, highlighting challenges and future directions in MOF-based wastewater treatment. This review underscores the significant potential of MOF-based catalysts in addressing water pollution challenges and emphasizes the importance of ongoing research and innovation in this field.
