Abstract
brGDGT Ia is one of the most common branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers produced by Acidobacteria as membrane-spanning lipids. These are used extensively by geochemists for paleoenvironmental studies. The image shows Acidobacteria colonies on an agar plate and the structure of brGDGT Ia with the elucidated syn configuration of the methyl branches, which was previously unknown.
