Abstract
The primary goal of this research is to characterize potential reservoirs in an Algerian petroleum field using deterministic seismic inversion of pre-stack data. Iterative methods were used to build the model, and the constructed volumes were correlated with the six wells drilled in the field for each iteration. Therefore, the final model has a high correlation rate, which exceeded 75 %. Furthermore, using the logging data cross plot, we were able to establish mathematical relationships between the seismic volumes of acoustic impedance, Vp/Vs, and density, as well as the reservoir's three dominant facies (clay, sandstone, and clayey sandstone). Besides, the petrophysical volumes obtained by using these relationships provided the horizontal distribution for the different reservoirs, with a focus on the potential ones. Thus, it is highly recommended to consider this model for determining the new exploration wells' positions in order to optimize the exploration strategy with minimal uncertainties and, consequently, reduce the exploration costs.
